Survey Results Are In! by Mako - 02/01/12 @ 10:31 AM PST#
First off, a big thanks to all our users who gave us feedback. We have the results posted up on /b/ with our responses to some of the suggestions and comments. Check 'em out here A lot of people mentioned wanting a story board on PetiChan, we actually have one in our sister site. http://www.petiwrite.org We'll definitely be doing more of surveys in the future. The next one will be looking more at updating our mascot from Soul Eater. We'll probably open it in a week or two. But if you ever have a questions or want to shout something at the mods, we always keep tabs on /dis/.
On a different note, our growth over the past month has been really amazing. Seeing us in the top 3 on most of the top lists has surpassed any expectation we had of what PetiChan could become.
...to take the new SUPPLEMENTAL SURVEY! Even if you took the last one, this one is looking to gather more info that we couldn't access before. So feel free to throw the same stuff or new stuff at us.
The results so far have been overwhelmingly encouraging. We've published our initial results that we were able to pull from the first survey on /b/. Check them out if you're curious. If you don't see your answer addressed in one of the other responses, it probably means we couldn't see it due to the paywall issue with survey monkey. Instead we've switched to a open source survey application we can host right here on PetiChan. http://survey.petichan.org/ will show all the active surveys we have on the site.
...to fill out this delightful survey majigger thingy. We're just looking for some feed back from users on things so we know where to grow in the future. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/X3PSRM8...to read the update.
Also some weird little moblin opened up a new section and stuff. If it's your thing you should go check it out. /dpr/
[UPDATE] Well that was a hell of a lot more successful then we were expecting. We had to close the survey early because we blew through amount of the free responses already. We'll publish responses to some of the question soon. If we don't respond to yours it probably means that it got stuck behind the paywall.
Thanks for helping out!! We'll be looking into redoing this one but better soon since the response was bigger then any of us thought we'd get.
HAPPY NEW YEAR! by Mako - 12/31/11 @ 05:46 AM PST#
It's been one hell of a year PetiVilleians. First and foremost we want to thank all of our users, old and new, for help growing PetiChan to what it is today. From those who stuck with us through the shaky up times as we dodged the clutches of the furry soup can who shall not be named, those who discovered us when newfapchans boards fell, and the refugees after the unfortunate demise of not4chan(rip).
A lot has happened over the past year. We've more then tripled our average active userbase. We've added new sections and fostered a small but dedicated base of niche interests.
Vast improvements were made to the boards like the thread Omnidex and making noko an automatic posting feature.
We weathered some uncertainty last week and have come through it okay.
We've continued to clean up the link spam of yesteryear and populate boards with content. Though we have a long way to go.
There's probably much more I'm forgetting, but it's been exciting none the less. We have more plans for the new year to make this place better then ever. We'll also be opening up new ways for our users to get active, input their ideas, and let us know what we can do to make PetiChan the best it can be. Though /dis/ is always open if you have any questions or suggestions for the staff.
But for now, let's dance and celebrate PetiChan 2012 and beyond!
Crackdown on Link Spam by Mako - 10/04/11 @ 12:38 PM PDT#
Recently we've been begun to actually enforce the rules more consistently about people creating multiple threads to post single links to file sharing websites. It's always been the policy of petichan that our users don't use our site for profit, and it's fairly apparent the fileshare link spam is just to bolster downloads in attempt to reach that particular sites reward goal. We have no issues about using filesharing sites, despite being able to upload compressed folders directly to petichan. But we are asking those who do this to actually dump the full doujin, in the correct section.
Our lolicon and shotacon boards have two sub-boards at the top of it. One for translated doujins and one for untranslated raw doujins;
/lolitrans/,
/loliraw/,
/smtrans/,
/smraw/. There's been a huge effort on the part of the staff to clean on these boards inparticular, though there's still work to be done in /loliraw/, as well as some of our other less active boards. Our eventual goal is to have people come to petichan to fap, comment or chat, and download the doujin if they so wish. Not to browse through 7 pages of links to take a shot at a cover that looks interesting, wait 8 minutes for the sharing site then be too bored to fap after.
I would like to give props to our posters in our previously neglected female/hetero /fur/ and /lfur/ furry sections; but especially give note to the /mguro/ posters who brought that board to life. We've heard complaints about certain sections of petichan being inactive, but these complaints tend to be posted without any content or in a thread without a direction. I think /mguro/ exemplifies that a board can be revived just by posting what you like on it and attracting others to it.
I've personally taken the initiative to provide tutorials linked at the top of our main boards on how to use xchan directory dumper to teach people how to dump entire folders of content easily. It's especially handy with longer doujins or if you have large folders of content. Written and picture guide to xchan Video Tutorial for xchan
If you wish to discuss this further feel free to contact us. Preferably through a thread in /dis/ but you can also you e-mail or irc.
I finally got around to doing the xchan video tutorial I promised a long time back. Hopefully this will encourage more people to actually dump content rather then just links to file sharing sites.
Ohai there. I figured I would address this in a news post, so I am. When I upload files, I use the .7z, or 7-zip format. When I compress my files, I use the LMZA2 compression method. This is unsupported by WinRar, and earlier version of 7z. Due to this, if you attempt to extract them, you will get an error. Either saying that it''s corrupt, or simply unsupported. Also, I use this format because of the high compression rate. So, to fix this, you can get the newest 7z beta stable version, which I will update with the proper links, as they become available.
Windows users:
Current 7z stable version 9.20 [x86 / 32-bit] Click to download.
